Today within America Days, the Washington-based dance group of “Company-E” delivered a performance titled “Speak Easy” at Rashid Behbudov State Song Theatre in Baku.


Speak Easy dance shows will bring American modern dance to Azerbaijan and represent the best of the American contemporary dance in a series of performances.

The U.S. Embassy sponsored all the dancers from Company | E's D.C. based troupe for a week-long road show around Azerbaijan. The contemporary dance performance, choreographed by Robert J. Priore, was commissioned by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 2015 and features the music of Etta James, Billie Holliday, and Ray Charles.

Within America Days, Speak Easy is going to stay in Azerbaijan till May 22 and perform in Azerbaijani regions as well. Speak Easy celebrates the timelessness of love in all its colors. "Speak Easy is a celebration of love.

Sometimes, hope - love - is the best way to remember what unites us. We have to remember how much we share as we tackle the things, which divide us. Speak Easy is a reminder of the power of love,” noted Company | E Co-Artistic Director Kathryn Sydell Pilkington.
