Defense Ministry and Military Prosecutor Office recognize massacre in military unit

The Defense Ministry and the Military Prosecutor Office of Azerbaijan have recognized the massacre in a military unit in Azerbaijan. According to their report, the massacre was committed on February 20 at 9:40. The Defense Ministry and the Military Prosecutor Office started a joint investigation. Criminal proceedings were instituted on Article 120.2.7 (murder of two or more people). The investigation’s results will be reported publicly.


According to informal sources, the bloody drama took place on a post in the Geygel district, where eight soldiers were on the guard. One of them shot six others and then committed suicide. The eighth one remained alive under the bodies of his murdered mates.

On January 28, 2010, when two soldiers killed four others and wounded two, and committed suicide afterwards.

Another accident of the sort took place in the Shamkir district in May 2009. Then a soldier Orkhan Safarov killed four officers and warrant officers and wounded five soldiers. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
